LONDON is the stomping ground of a new legion of attitude-ridden designers right now. They have it in abundance and it’s just the right sort: fresh, confrontational, eclectic. The likes of Christopher Kane and JW Anderson are all grown up and it’s time for a new generation to step in. And among that line-up is Ashley Williams, Fashion East alumnus. This afternoon marked her debut solo show and with it came a collection inspired by the Age of Aquarius, East meets West. So there were chinoiserie little dresses worn over long-sleeved Ts, blingy bra tops, slogan-scribbled tops and dresses, TV-branded busts, pencil skirts and a sense of dressed-up dressed-down. Rather like when you were a teenager and in your head you had everywhere to go, but in real life you didn’t yet have anywhere to go. Alexa and Pixie G front row cheering Williams on, it was a fun collection to kick-start her the beginnings of her solo journey.
